based on its specifications and my experiences with the TZ5, you may be better off saving the $50 to $100 and sticking with the cheaper model. Still, as far as truly compact megazooms go, these two are pretty much your only options, and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 acquits itself well.
Face detection was also impressive. The SP-570UZ showed remarkable speed in picking up faces even at long distances. My favorite feature, however, is the Perfect Shot Preview, in which the camera provides a preview of what each setting will do to your shot.
The Pentax K20D is at the forefront of Pentax’s existing DSLR range, benefiting from collaborative efforts with Samsung to develop the 14.6megapixel sensor (as found in the Samsung GX-20 DSLR) at the core of the system.
Aesthetically the V1073 is extremely slick, with an all black metal body. While it has a fairly boxy shape, the colour scheme is appealing and it manages to stand out from the hoard of matte silver units out on the market.

At around $830 for the kit with lens (or about $780 for the body only), the XSi is not the cheapest digital SLR out there. The Sony Alpha A200 (which we haven’t tested yet) is cheaper, at around $600, and the Nikon D60 is similarly priced. So the XSi is not a unique deal; it’s just another entry in an increasingly crowded part of the market. But the XSi does provide decent value for money; it has more resolution than the A200 and produces overall better quality images than the Nikon D60. So, although it is not the cheapest SLR on the market, it provides decent value for money for those who don’t mind spending a bit more than the minimum.
It’s impossible not to notice the F100fd’s large 28–140mm equivalent lens, which takes up half the 3.8-inch-wide chassis. At 6.4 ounces, the F100fd is not outrageously heavy, but in a high-end camera with a modest zoom factor we would hope for a slimmer, sexier shape.
The FX520 exceeded our expectations in terms of image quality and features. In the field of touchscreen shooters that was previously dominated by Sony, Panasonic has developed a shooter that can appease even the advanced photographers
The 11-megapixel Fujifilm Finepix S100FS is a heavyweight in both size and features, with impressive raw performance, a large sensor and an excellent wide-angle long lens, only let down by purple fringing
