How important is the live view feature in DSLRs?
Hi there,I’m buying my first DSLR soon, but I just recently found out that most of the older models have no live view feature. I’ve been using point-and-shoot digital cameras for years — right now i have a Canon S5 IS — so I’m pretty used to shooting with live view. A friend suggested I hold out and wait for the Canon 450D which has the feature, but as most DSLR users seem happy without it, I’m not really sure. I consider myself somewhere between intermediate and advanced — still feeling my way around, but definitely ready for an SLR. Continue Reading »
Canon 570 IS vs. SD1000?
Hello, I am looking to buy an new camera for my trip to Ireland next month. I think I have it narrowed down to these two. I really like the features of the 570 IS and the fact that it takes AAs since charging something will be an issue. It is also cheaper. I really like the look and form factor of the SD1000. Canon 400D Flash Obstructed, Error 05?
I already asked this question, but apparantly it was misread and then no one else answered, so I’ll ask again. My Canon camera’s pop up flash is obstructed.
Whenever I try to take a picture, it makes a heavy clicking sound as though it’s trying to pop up.
Then it says “Error 5, flash obstructed.”How do I make it not obstructed? Continue Reading »
How do you format a new SDHC Memory card?
Just got a new Camera (Canon S5 IS)….and a 4Gig Sandisc Extreme “3″ card and reader. I was told that “formatting” was critical after each use of the card? I had an older camera with a Compact Flash card..and I never did it then? What is this all about….and HOW and WHEN do I do it?Software with the Sandisc was just a “recovering” thing. NOTHING about “formatting”. HELP!
—Gray Rock
well it’s not critical in my opinion. Once you’ve loaded your card pretty good, and you’re sure you’ve backed them up and put them on a disk, then you can format the card. 4 gb is a huge card, and you’ll hardly fill it up unless you take tons and tons of images…I would probably format it once it gets to say, 50% capacity. Do not worry about it.
Some things you should never do is use the card in those picture Kiosks,
always “remove safely” from your computer to avoid corrupting it Continue Reading »
What is Exposure in digital Photography?
I have been reading magazines and they keep on about using different exposures can somebody help me?
—xoxfletc…
Exposure is the amount of light that is “exposed” to the film. This usually only applies to DSLRs that have an exposure settings not the point and shoot cameras

Anyone know how to set the self timer on a Casio Exilim EX-Z77?
—Blushing
I have that exact camera! Mine is the Red one.
Just click on ‘Menu’ and under ‘Rec’ you’ll see ‘Self-timer.’ It’s the 3rd one. Use the down arrow to go to it and then when you’re highlighted over it, click the right arrow and it will give you timer options. Continue Reading »
What most neutral filter would you suggest for Olympus 14-42 lens?–Mr. Owl
if you are simply trying to protect your lens then don’t use a filter…it’s one more piece of glass the light has to go through and there is a chance it could affect the quality of your prints unless you buy a really good multi coated filter like a hoya SMC Continue Reading »

The FE-200 is a excellent camera for the price, the 5X optical zoom work create. I use my Olympus E-500 for taking pictures and the FE-200 mostly for taking videos, a 1GB memory takes proximally 25 minutes of video and I use Quicktime Plus to edit the video. The video quality is not as go as the regular video camera but now I can carry the FE-200 everywhere. Continue Reading »
