Index of Pentax K-x Expert Reviews:

  • ePhotozine—“Initial impressions of the new Pentax DSLR were impressive and I’m glad to say that they still are. It’s unfortunate about the battery issue and judging by the comments at the bottom of this review, the K-m has suffered similar problems. Maybe it’s time to start using Lithium Ion batteries in all DSLRs from now on because I’m unsure that AA types – even the lithium variety – have the capacity to cope with the new technology that uses so much power.”
  • PhotographyBlog—“The Pentax K-x is a small, light and easy-to-use DSLR camera that punches well above its mid-range weight. The only major negative that we can think of is its diminutive size, which for many people will actually be a positive. We’re certainly convinced – the Pentax K-x is our new favourite “affordable” DSLR and fully deserving of our rarely-awarded Essential / 5 Star rating.”
  • TechRadar—“The K-x takes absolutely superb pictures, and that’s the main thing. It handles noise well and the extended ISO range isn’t just bragging on the specification sheet – there are times when it’s genuinely useful.
The K-x also handles superbly and the bundled lens is outstanding. HD video is nice to have and undeniably high quality. There are compromises to accept, but that’s true of all HD-capable DSLRs at the moment.”
  • Pocket-lint—”Ultimately the K-x is a camera that will endeavour to provide both beginners and more experienced users with their, er, kicks. It’s an affordable, well-featured all-in-one device and very capable with it too, making it a tempting proposition for those not already wedded to a rival system due to ownership of pre-existing lenses.”
  • DigitalCameraReview—”The Pentax K-x offers a great value for its price. It gives you total control of image processing, manual shooting, a few post-processing shortcuts, and easy-to-use automatic and scene modes that makes it an entry-level to intermediate camera. Yes it has some quirks, it can be slow at times, and it drains battery juice at the drop of a hat, but we can’t deny that the K-x is top notch otherwise.”
  • What Digital Camera—”The K-x manages to offer plenty of functionality in a small package, and produces images of a high standard. As a beginner’s camera it provides plenty to explore, while equally it wouldn’t be out of place as backup to a more expensive model, given its portability. The lack of AF-point illumination and the low-resolution LCD screen may put some off, but for such foibles it makes up in other areas such as the impressive focusing system. It might not be for everyone, but as a contender to Canon and Nikon’s alternatives it puts up a mighty good fight.”
  • Photocrati—”I did say that all was not perfect with the K-x. Image quality was very good, if not remarkable. And the AF system was largely on track, especially when it came to action photography. The lenses were easy to work with, if noisy during AF operation. Noteworthy was manual focusing on these lenses—with positive detents at either end of the focusing spectrum preventing you from rotating the ring too far. That was a refreshing contrast to many higher-priced lenses on other cameras.”
  • Digital Photography Review—”The K-x is a very capable little camera indeed. Pentax has managed to squeeze what is, for this class of camera, an impressive feature set into the camera’s minuscule, rather inconspicuous, body and the image quality, especially in low light, is the best we have seen so far in the entry-level bracket of the DSLR market. To put some icing on the cake, all of this comes at a currently, compared to the closest rivals, very attractive price point. To us the lack of visible AF points is the camera’s only real drawback but if you can live with this omission you can’t go wrong with the Pentax K-x.”
