The 9.1-megapixel Panasonic DMC-TZ5 packs a 28mm wide-angle, 10x optical zoom Leica DC lens in a compact design, ideal for the active photographer who needs a versatile camera. By combining a 28mm wide-angle lens, which lets you capture a wider-framed shot when compared to a traditional 35mm camera, with the TZ-Series 10x optical zoom, you’re empowered to take expanded shots, both wide and far.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 Professional Reviews
- Cnet Reviewed the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 and gave out”The good: Attractive, functional design; generally above average photo quality for its class; nice, useful feature set; lens can zoom during movie capture.—The bad: Aggressive smoothing reduces detail in indoor shots, even at low ISO sensitivities; modest performance; poorly placed microphone.—The bottom line: Though it’s not perfect, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5’s compact midrange megazoom feature set puts it in a class with just its sibling, the TZ4, and should deliver a satisfying shooting experience.”
digitalcamerareview reviewed the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 and gave out”At the end of the day, I came away with mixed feelings about the TZ5. It’s a competent package that continues to do something relatively unique, and it will still get the job done with style and speed in most cases. Choosing to break little from the heritage of the TZ line, though, I can’t help but feel that it’s not as outstanding as it easily could have been.”
DigitalCameraResourcePage reviewed the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 and gave out ”The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 is quite an impressive package. It’s not perfect, but it’s arguably the best camera in the “compact” ultra zoom class. From its 28 - 280 mm lens to its 720p movie mode, the TZ5 can do just about everything. If you’re after a point-and-shoot camera with some serious zoom power, then the TZ5 should be high on your list.”
cameraLabs reviewed the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 and gave out ”The lack of manual control can be annoying for enthusiasts, and the performance at higher sensitivities is, like most compacts, nothing to be proud of. But these are about the only real downsides to the TZ5. So if you’re happy to leave your creativity to various scene presets and limit the sensitivity to 100 or 200 ISO then you’ll enjoy some great-looking photos.”

Absolutely no question Panasonic DMC TZ5 is a better choice. It packs this superb LEICA lens, 10x Zoom all in its compact body. I’d definitely go for Panasonic. Panasonic DMC TZ5’s natural rival would be Canon SX100 IS and sill I’d go for Panasonic. If you prefer a super zoom camera you’ll have plenty of options to choose from like Olympus SP 570 (20x zoom), Canon S5 IS (12x zoom), the newly Sony DSC H50 (15x zoom) and Panasonic DMC FZ18 (18x Zoom). Personally, I have Sony DSC H7 and I’m not happy with it at all. Barrel distortion seems to be a pretty serious problem with Sony’s latest cameras. Again in this super zoom category there are two that in my opinion is worth a closer look, they would be Panasonic DMC FZ18 and Canon S5 IS.
