Olympus FE-5020 Ratings and Reviews

The high-tech and user friendly Olympus FE series is sure to be a hit with users who want high image quality regardless of their budget. The 12-megapixel FE cameras boast up to 5x super wide optical zoom for great panorama shots or close-ups of distant subjects. The Olympus FE-5020 looks especially striking thanks to a double layered crystal shell finish. In addition, it offers a practical AF tracking feature which ensures that even moving subjects are in focus at all times. Also on board are advanced face detection technology and the i-Auto mode, which automatically identifies five commonly-encountered types of scenes and adjusts settings accordingly.

Index of Olympus FE-5020 Expert Reviews

  • Pocket-lint—”Tricky exposures commonly lead to blown highlight detail, while instances of pixel fringing are readily apparent when zooming in on detail. In truth, this is the sort of performance we’d expect to get from a budget model, and perhaps it seems extra disappointing because the camera’s polished exterior suggests it might have been capable of more. “
  • Cameras.co.uk—”On the whole the Olympus FE-5020 does the job it sets out to do. Picture quality is suitable for snapshots and ease of use is a major strength. There are one of two compromises made to keep the price down. These include a couple of picture quality niggles and a slower shutter response.”
  • PhotographyBlog—”Though Olympus has been innovative at the higher end of the market with its E-series DSLRs and the exciting digital Pen, its compact cameras seem to be suffering. It’s a shame as its all-metal Mju cameras at the start of the decade were small truly objects of desire. And whilst the FE-5020 undoubtedly looks good if you choose the white and chrome combination we had, there’s not as much substance behind the style as there could be.”
  • TrustedReviews—”As a low-cost ultra-compact the Olympus FE-5020 does offer a greater zoom range and a wider wide-angle than anything else of comparable price, but its awkward handling, limited range of features, poor performance and lack of low-light ability, as well as its disappointing overall image quality limit its appeal.”
