Similar to the D3, the D300 features Nikon’s exclusive EXPEED Image Processing System that is central to driving the speed and processing power needed for many of the camera’s new features.

The D300 features a new 51-point auto focus system with Nikon’s 3D Focus Tracking feature and two new LiveView shooting modes that allow users to frame a photograph using the camera’s high-resolution LCD monitor. The D300 shares a similar Scene Recognition System as found in the D3 that promises to greatly enhance the accuracy of auto focus, auto exposure and auto white balance by recognizing the subject or scene being photographed and applying this information to the calculations for the three functions.
Nikon D300 Professional Reviews
- laptopmag reviewed the new Nikon D300 and gave out”If you’re serious about photography and don’t mind spending extra money to upgrade to a serious DSLR, the Nikon D300 is about the best investment you can make. While the 10.1-megapixel Canon EOS 40D and the 12.2-megapixel Sony Alpha A700 are good (and cheaper) semipro digital SLRs, the D300 is the all-around best camera in this category for image quality, speed, durability, and features. Along with the extra cash, you’ll likely spend a lot of time learning everything this complicated but high-performing camera can do. But if taking great pictures means a lot to you, the D300 is worth it.”
- neocamera reviewed the new Nikon D300 and gave out”The bottom line is that the D300 impresses by its versatile feature set and solid performance. While there are some controls and user-interface which could be improved, it is hard to fault this digital camera.”
- PCmag reviewed the new Nikon D300 and gave out”Bottom Line:The Nikon D300 delivers the entire package with an overabundance of well-executed features, stellar performance, and excellent-quality shots. Pros: Outstanding image quality and features. 3-inch LCD. 51-point autofocus. Active D-lighting. Two live view modes. Cons:Expensive. No self-timer in live view mode.”
- photographyreview reviewed the new Nikon D300 and gave out”The D300 is for any serious photographer - the serious amateur, the occasional event shooter, and the full-blown professional. I’ve been all three of these, and I made a concerted effort during the past two months of testing to use it in situations that all three types of photographer would. In each case the D300 met or exceeded my every expectation, and surpassed every camera I’ve used shy of the D3.The price point also makes it very accessible. Before upgrading to a D300, however, potential purchasers should evaluate the quality of their lenses, as the D300 shines when coupled with high-quality optics.Photographers who may not need the D300’s huge feature set may wish to save a little money by purchasing a new or used D200. However, the D300 price will drop over time and cost will become less of an issue.”

This camera is incredibly powerful, I own a Nikon D80 and I love it. THis camera is very dreamy…51 AF area, 6 FPS (possible 8), unrivaled startup, 3 inch LCD screen, wonderful design, this camera is amazing. With the exception of the D3, this looks to be the nicest camera on the market!
