Index of Nikon Coolpix S1000pj Expert Reviews

  • CNET.uk—“Well, it’s an okay camera with a unique feature that will either leave you chortling with delight or utterly unimpressed. It’s definitely something to try before you buy. Just remember that you can get the same basic picture quality and features for half the price, so you’re paying plenty for that dinky little projector.”
  • Photoxels—“The Nikon Coolpix S1000pj is an enjoyable camera to use. It’s compact enough to carry in a trousers pocket, so it is always available for a quick shot. The controls are very intuitive. The built-in projector makes this a distinctly unique camera.”
  • Ken Rockwell—“The projector is a handy feature if you often like to show friends what you’ve shot. I wouldn’t use it to show off my portfolio, but I would use it at night to show a few people at once my baby pictures. It is a lot bigger than the built-in LCD for showing other people your work, but the colors and blacks aren’t there yet.”
  • PCmag—“Bottom Line:The Nikon Coolpix S1000pj’s built-in projector offers a unique and fun picture- and video-playback experience, but when it comes to performance and features this $400+ camera doesn’t deliver.
    Pros:Built-in projector. Decent operating speeds.
Cons: Very expensive. Subpar feature set for the price. Soft images. Some color fringing. Bulky design. No lens cover to protect projector window.”

What Digital Camera —”The Nikon S1000pj is definitely an innovative product, but it just falls a tiny bit short of the mark. First and foremost it should be a camera – and image quality, light fall off at the wide angle, and lack of manual controls and a better overall layout lack. Add the projector and the ‘world first’ box is certainly well and truly ticked, yet there’s limited application and that fact it will only show images (no documents, basic text files, etc) will limit this from being picked up by a wider community outside of the photographic.”
ePHOTOzine—”It’s expensive, but it’s innovative. No other camera falls into that price point with that classification, most are a couple of hundred pounds less. That said, I enjoyed using the Nikon Coolpix S1000pj and I think if you’re into sharing your images then this is the camera for you. It’s progressive, creative and a great talking point at a party.”
Pocket-lint—”So the camera delivers decent results and the projector works too. But the real question is what you are going to do with it. We guess that if you are interested in the camera you can already see the benefits of having projection in the same device.”

I just got this great, new camera from Nikon and it has been just great. This falls into the category of “what will they think of next?” The camera itself is a solid performer for a point and shoot with a slightly better than average 5x zoom which is great for a point & shoot model. Of course, the projector is the “WOW!” factor. No more squeezing around the display on the back to show your friends the photos. The projector is a great way to share your images. The image quality is not as high as the LCD display, but fine for quick showings.

As an artist, I will use this camera to shoot new subjects, then project them onto a canvas so I can transfer the compositions into a painting.

Be sure to order the larger Nikon case since the other “S” cases are too small for this model.

Ok, a projector sounds a little wierd, but once you get this camera, you will change your mind. First of all it is a great camera even if it didn’t have the projector. It takes great pictures and compares with many cameras selling for about 375 – 425, so might as well get the projector. You will use it more than you think. I love it! Buy this camera, you won’t regret it.

It is lightweight, small and has every feature you would want in a camera. In a dark room you can project images up to about 65″ and they look pritty good.
