Nikon 80-200 vs Sigma 70-200 on D40— Nugroho Gito

I’m about to choose one of these two lenses for my beloved D40.
I know Nikon won’t AF on D40 while Sigma 70-200 will AF nicely on D40.The only reason why I’m considering Nikon is I just love the contrast & colour rendition produced by this lens, while Sigma’s contrast & colour is a little bit warmer IMO.

I’m seriously thinking to buy Katz eye to make manual focusing for Nikon 80-200 easier on D40, or should I just buy Sigma which will AF with D40?
Can you guys provide some light in this regard?

I have a somewhat similar dilemma… I am wondering if it is worth investing in cropped frame lenses…

Do you plan to upgrade from the D40 in the future? If so, then the Nikon will be the way to go. Chances are your new body will have an AF motor.

Go find a used Nikon 80-200 AFS, or just spend the money on the 70-200 AFS VR. Either way know that you have some of the finest lenses ever made for the F mount, and they will hold their value if you ever want to sell it later, something I think you won’t find true of the sigma.
