What do you think of the canon gl2?—nina

anyone own this? what is your experience with it? i know there are much better versions for more but its in my price range 1,000-1,500…
im just worried because i heard it falls apart easily

the GL2 certainly shoots good DV footage and in my opinion as good as the XL1s. I’ve used the GL2 (or XM2 as it is in Europe) many times and I’ve never had any problem with them falling apart…or even heard of it. We use them up on jibs for high shots and given them hard landings and no problems. However..seeing as they are commonly used by students doing things like shooting whilst skateboarding, snowboarding or generally messing about etc then they might fall apart if you drop them in such circumstances. I’ve been told that most of the early Jackass was done on the GL2. It’s a broadcast quality camera and shoot be treated as such….as in don’t throw it around in the pub…lol.
