What is a good starter lens for the Nikon D40x?—ohhmuffi…

I’m looking at getting the bundle with the 18-200 mm VR lens…..am I looking in the right direction? Or is this overkill? I will be taking mainly family pictures, however, I also will be taking it camping, hiking, quading, x-country skiing, etc.

Yes it’s a good lens. The wider focal lengths (in the 18-35mm range) will be good around the house shooting family snapshots and such. When you’re outside you’ll probably use the whole range of focal lengths from wide for getting overall landscapes, to the longer telephoto settings when someone says “Hey check out that chipmunk over there). Get an SB-400 to go with it and you’ll have a really cool setup for not a lot of money.
