good Canon high speed lens
526 Views Category: Digital Camera Ask and AnswersCan anybody recommend a good Canon high speed lens?—fespinal4…
I own a Canon Rebel XTi
I want to spend at most $500 for a great high speed lens for portraits…anybody?
Best Answer—OMG, I
The Canon 85mm f/1.8 costs just $330. Problem solved. Use it between f/2.8 and f/4.
If you want f/1.4, you could get a Canon 50mm f/1.4 for $310. I personally make do with a 50mm lens on a Nikon (with a 1.5 crop factor) but really, the 85mm is better suited.
2nd that opinion on the 85mm f/1.8.
Hands down, one of Canon’s best portrait lenses. Fast, accurate focusing, beautiful bokeh. One of my frequently used lenses.Edit: To address shshht’s recommendation of the 70-200 f/4L–it also makes a great portrait lens and will give you the added versatility of the tele zoom. The only thing you give up is the low light capability and shallow dof that you get from the 85mm being a f/1.8 lens.
