There are always compromises associated with cramming a feature set like this into a tiny body, and that’s the choice you make when you buy such a camera. The P100 offers an amazing amount of features and is a very enjoyable camera to use. You can do a lot with it and it should appeal to the gadget fan who is more into specification than pixel-peeping.”

If it was going to be someone’s primary camera, I would say pass. Those interested in experimentation and want a lot of settings to play with, and a really long lens, but aren’t as concerned about getting the best quality photos and video in return, will likely be thrilled. ”

The lens is a real winner. It’s also very easy to record high quality HD movies. SLR users seeking a back-up compact might find its restrictions and usability quirks frustrating, though.”

The combination of creative control through the manual settings, the wide zoom range and HD video capture make it a good all-rounder. The performance and image quality impress too.”

DigitalCameraInfo—“The Exilim EX-G1 is a small, stylish and tough camera: it is just 0.78 inches thick, but can take images at up to 33 feet down, and at temperatures of down to 14 degrees farenheight (about -10 celsisus). But these good looks don’t carry over to the images: we found that while they had low noise, they were very soft. Especially at the edge of the frame, where sharp edges turned into blurry messes and fine details just weren’t captured. ”

CNET Reviews—”The good: Rugged construction; low shutter lag. The bad: Photo quality is merely OK; long shot-to-shot times; slightly over-designed. The bottom line: The Casio Exilim EX-G1 is a good snapshot camera built to take a beating, but its photos and shooting features are nothing special.”

Pocket-lint—”If having a camera that will take punishment without breaking is a higher priority than anything else, the Casio Ex-G1 is worth considering – and, again, have we mentioned how cool it looks? – but, in a more sober light, there are better overall options out there.”

PhotographyBlog—”Ultimately where the EX-G1 is a letdown is as regards the wildly variable quality of its images – it’s too inconsistent a performer to rate highly. Photos at times looking like ‘grabs’ from camcorder footage with a very obvious digital look and feel.”

It will suit travellers who want a hybrid camera with which to take high-def video as well as still photos. It’s worth noting that Sony has finally warmed to the SD card format; this camera has a slot that can accommodate both SD and Memory Stick Pro DUO formats.”

TechTree—”The Sony DSC-TX7 is priced at Rs. 22,900, which is quite expensive. But for that kind of money you do get a camera with super slim design and rugged build quality with a wonderful touchscreen display. More importantly the quality of the images and the videos is really good, not something that you expect from a compact camera. There are no really major cons as such with the camera, except for the price. But if you can afford it and more importantly you want a slim and pocketable camera, then the Sony TX7 is the one to go for. “

But if you are doing any serious diving, climbing or spelunking, you might want to spend more on a camera that can go deeper, colder and take better pictures.”

TrustedReviews—“The Leica D-Lux 4 is the ultimate luxury compact camera. It is extremely expensive, and some of that price is paying for the legendary Leica name, but nonetheless is is a superb camera, with a simple but classically beautiful design as well as outstanding build quality, handling, performance and image quality. It may be a Panasonic LX3 in all but name, but for some that name is worth paying for.”

GoodGearGuide—”Overall, the Leica D-LUX 4 compact digital camera is a very nice piece of kit. It looks very stylish, and it takes clear and neutral-looking photos. It has good speed, plenty of manual settings, and its scene modes are very useful. However, you do have forego a sizable chunk of your income to procure it. “

Some of the smaller yet still powerful features – such as 1:1 ratio shooting – will see traditionalists kept happy, and the 24mm wideangle lens is of excellent quality. On-camera switches, toggles and buttons mean it’s simple to use. The only major issue is the price tag, but then if you want that designer red dot on your camera you’ll have to take the bite from the bank.”

CrunchGear—“I was quite impressed with this camera and if Leica and Panasonic want to swap everything down to the button placement on the back more power too them. The D-LUX 4 is a gateway drug and anyone who has used an M8 will attest that when you use Leica glass on a Leica body you get some amazing shots.”

They are virtually identical cameras. Only the body shape is different. Oh, and the price! $829 for the Panasonic and $1650 for the Leica.”

Both cameras are supremely high-end DSLR cameras. If you are not too keen on using the latest technology, perhaps you can opt for the Nikon D90 which is a slightly dated as it is first introduced around 20 months ago. Although the Canon T2i is slightly more expensive than the D90 (around $150), it is part of the famous Canon Rebel series and was introduced to market just a month ago.

the Canon EOS Rebel T2i boosts of an incredible 18 MP, large 3.0-Inch LCD, light sensitivity of ISO 100-6400 (expandable to 12800 for shooting from bright to dim light), DIGIC 4 image processor (latest offering from Canon, among other latest-technology features. I reckon you should go for Canon because the Rebel series is extremely popular and established among DSLR camera users. In addition, as you are getting the newest technology available now, it means that you need not change your camera any time soon. For detailed description of the features, you may wish to check: http://www.amazon.com/Canon-T2i-Digital-…

I heard the canon 50 / 1.8 is good enough. I need advise which of this two lenses would a portrait photographer recommend?

When you are shooting studio portraits with your 28-135 lens, are you always set on or near the 50mm mark? If so, what do you consider a portrait? When I shoot portraits, they are usually one person photographed with their head filling most of the screen. Say about a few inches below their shoulders to the top of their head. Plus a couple inches on top of their head. (so as not to “cut off” their head).
If you shoot portraits like I do and most other photographer’s, the last thing you need for portraiture is a 50mm lens.
The most flattering portraits are done with a 135mm. Why? Because the longer the lens the more compressed the faces look. That helps with people that have large noses and big ears. And a 135mm lens helps with the ladies who are vanity prone.
I just went to the canon web site: www.canonusa.com and briefly looked at the lenses and their descriptions. The canon 100mm was described as “the background blur is ideal for portraits”. Notice this goes against my advise of using 135mm. But it is twice the focal length you intend to use. I have not used the 100mm lens that Canon recommends. There are other Canon lenses that are recommended for portraiture. I just saw 135mm “soft-focus” lens, which I would like over the previous mentioned 100mm. I think you need to study the Canon lenses and their descriptions and see how they measure up to the way YOU take pictures. Your are the one that has to be pleased and if you are going to sell your work, you have to equip yourself to match most of your clients. If it was my choice and my clients were young smooth faced for the most part I would go the 100mm. But if your clients are old (with wrinkles and other facial parts they don’t to see themselves with) get a 135mm.
Notice I said get 135mm. You don’t have to get the most expensive lens, just a longer focal length You can fudge by using a soft focus filter. Oh, and go to the library and get a book on portraiture and get another view on this subject. Remember the more flaws, the more expensive retouching is going to be.
