Nothing against the Pentax, but I recommend either Nikon or Canon for cameras (I shoot a D80, personally). Not only do these two brands tend to have better digital cameras than the “off-brands”, but the kick butt when it comes to lenses.
Modern digital sensors are very high resolution and require maximum sharpness from the lens to make full use of them. You can’t beat a Nikon lens (I’d say Canon is equal). I have the 18-200 VR and it’s fantastic!
Canon and Nikon have better glass, better tech, and more choices than anyone else. Plus, you can always rent a Nikon or Canon lens if you want something special for a weekend; you’ll have a lot more trouble finding rentals for other brands.
