What is the difference between a DVD+RW and DVD-RW?—heat1988…

Best Answer —mustang sally

The DVD + RW and DVD -RW as far as I know these days are essentially the same in thier function. The RW means that it is a disk that you can erase and rewrite to. When it started out the -R disk was the most compatable with most DVD players and then the + R came along. The DVD + R has some advantages in the ability to add files to the disk…and a bunch of other advantages (I used to know all the advantages of one vs. the other but have forgotten them.) Notice here that I am talking about the -R & +R disks ….not the +RW & the -RW disks but the advantages of one versus the other are almost not existent these day because most computers and DVD players accept both types and that cost and availability of each type are the same. I think that the advantages of the + R disks will carry over to the RW disks. Unlike one of your previous answers I don’t think that one type of disk is for the computer and the other for DVD players. I had one of the 1st stand alone DVD burners ($1000.00 they are now $100) that only took the DVD + type disks…..Thanks Tom G.
