what camera is better a canon 400d or a canon 30d and why?anyone else - im new to photography so i dont fully understand everything

Both are great cameras. In addition to what’s been said, I would definitely recommend going into a camera shop and playing with them side by side. See how they feel in your hand and how balanced they are with lenses on. See how the camera operates and how easy it is for you to access functions that you’ll be using a lot.

When I was camera shopping, I was looking at both the rebel XT and 20D. 2 minutes with both cameras and I had my decision. The XT felt too small in my hands and because it was lighter, didn’t feel as balanced. I didn’t like how you had to press the SET button to lock in changes to ISO and focus points. I found the 20D easier to use.

Ergonomics and ease of use are two things that are often overlooked as people focus in on features, megapixels, etc. but are just as important in my opinion.

The 30D is more aimed towards the prosumer than the comsumer. The 400D takes good pictures all the same but can be blown up to a larger size than the 30D because it has 10MP. The picture quality on the 400D maybe a bit better than the 30D just because they ahve the same sensor and the 400D has 10MPs. The 30D however is great for sport and action shots because it has 5FPS of countious shooting and it has spot metering.

You should go for the 400D it is a really nice camera for under $1000 if you do not need all of those pro features.
