The FinePix F50fd is a stylish, compact camera. It’s made mostly of metal, and it feels quite solid for the most part. The exceptions are the flimsy door over the battery/memory card compartment, and the plastic tripod mount. The proximity of those two items means that you will not be able to swap memory cards while the camera is on a tripod.
Image quality is a mixed bag, with the P5100 performing very well in some areas but suffering in others. On the whole, image clarity was excellent with the 12.1-megapixel sensor resolving great levels of detail.
The body of the S700 is also all metal, but in this case it’s aluminium. It is available in two different finishes, either the brushed-metal silver of my review camera or a very attractive darker gunmetal colour called, for some reason, Urban Black. The design is quite understated, in fact it looks almost plain, with a simple rectangular shape slightly bevelled towards the front.
The A920 is a prime example of this low-cost, high-value ethos. Currently priced at around £95 it offers 9.0-megapixel resolution from a 1/1.6-inch SuperCCD HR sensor, a 4x optical zoom Fujinon lens and a 2.7-inch LCD monitor.
The DMC FX55 is small enough to fit into a pocket. It comes equipped with image stabilisation and has a large 3 inch LCD screen. It also incorporates a feature called easy zoom.
As a multimedia device the i7 is very clever but as a camera, it could do much much better but if it’s just snaps you want and feel the need for all those lovely extras, it may still be for you.
Fast shooting and pleasing images in an easy-to-use design make the Kodak EasyShare V1253 an attractive — though not best-in-class — option.
